Louisville police have arrested a man in connection to a Monday morning shooting, in which the suspect was accused of attempting to murder a mayoral candidate. 21-year-old Quintez Brown was arrested by police, and is being held at the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections...
Brown is a BLM activist and black nationalist who was praised by former President Barack Obama, MSNBC host Joy Ann Reid, and was a writer for the Courier Journal...
On Monday morning, Louisville Democratic mayoral candidate Craig Greenberg was holding a short meeting with four members of his campaign staff. It was during that meeting when a man, later identified as Brown, stood in the doorway and started shooting his 9mm Glock handgun in the direction of Greenberg.
Greenberg's staffers were able to get the door shut, and the team used furniture to barricade themselves inside as the shooter fled the scene, according to local news.

Illinois State Senator Kimberly Lightford is recounting the harrowing details of being carjacked in west suburban Broadview this week with her husband, Erin McKennie...
Lightford, who said she feared for her life, described it like a scene out of a movie.
"Three guys just hopped out with guns and they demanded that we get out of the car and they put my husband on the ground," said Lightford. "They had me over on the other side. I begged them not to shoot us and I begged them not to shoot my husband and not to shoot me."...
As she ran, gunfire erupted, her husband exchanging shots with the carjackers. "I thought for sure they were gonna shoot me down," Lightford said. "It was a lot of shots being fired. I think they were shooting at my husband and me and luckily enough my husband is concealed and carry and he was able to protect us."

A former consultant for Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign was arrested after he allegedly planted loaded weapons and ammunition inside a Tennessee corrections facility that was under construction in an attempt to carry out a future jailbreak, authorities said.
Criminal justice reform advocate Alex Friedmann, who was not an inmate but allegedly was plotting to help prisoners escape when the facility opened, was arrested Tuesday on one count of felony vandalism...
The opening of the Nashville detention center, which was slated for April, was indefinitely postponed after his arrest, according to the Tennessean.

Kellie Collins, a former congressional candidate in Georgia’s 10th District, was charged with the murder of her former campaign treasurer, Curtis Cain. The allegations of murder follow Collins’ advocacy for “responsible” gun control laws during her campaign. WSB-TV reports that she argued for stricter legislation “to protect the community.”
Police found Cain’s body in Collins’s apartment with a gunshot wound. Cain did not come in to work last Tuesday, prompting deputies to check in on him. Police estimated that he was dead for roughly a week.
Collins turned herself in to police on Saturday, shortly after the body was found. The two were reportedly living together and may have been married.
Collins ran as a Democrat against Republican incumbent Rep. Jody Hice.

An armed security guard associated with staunch anti-gun and nationally known social activist, Father Michael Pfleger, was arrested on May 27 outside St. Sabina’s Roman Catholic Church on the South Side where Pfleger is a senior pastor.
The Chicago Police (CPD) charged Henry Eugene Hale, 35, with possessing a firearm without a valid Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card. He was released on $150 bond.

A part-time Menomonee Falls firefighter is facing criminal charges for a Facebook post threatening Gov. Scott Walker.
Wisconsin State Capitol Police got the call March 8 reporting an alarming post on Facebook that read, "I suggest we take all our firearms to the governor's mansion and execute the parasite."
It was a comment on the campaign page for state Rep. Dana Wachs, of Eau Claire, a Democrat running for governor. Police traced the post to a Menomonee Falls firefighter, 45-year-old Nicholas Hager of Lannon.

The chief executive of a San Diego-area cybersecurity firm has resigned after threatening on Facebook to assassinate President-elect Donald Trump. “I’m going to kill the president. Elect,” PacketSled President and CEO Matt Harrigan wrote on election night on his now-deleted Facebook page, according to screenshots posted on Reddit. When someone commented, “You just need to get high,” Mr. Harrigan responded, “Nope, getting a sniper rifle and perching myself where it counts. Former California state Sen. Leland Yee pleaded guilty to one count of racketeering in federal court Wednesday, admitting that he “knowingly and intentionally agreed with another person” to take part in a criminal enterprise and commit at least two offenses and affect state commerce. Yee, a Democrat from San Francisco, told U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer that he admitted his guilt and knew he could face a harsh sentence, which will be handed down on Oct. 21.

Jerome M. Hauer, Gov. Andrew Cuomo's director of homeland security, took out his handgun and used the laser sighting device attached to the barrel as a pointer in a presentation to a foreign delegation, according to public officials. These officials, one of whom claimed to be an eyewitness, said that three Swedish emergency managers in the delegation were rattled when the gun's laser tracked across one of their heads before Hauer found the map of New York, at which he wanted to point.
