Aug. 30, 2021, is a date that should live in infamy in U.S. history. It was the day the last planes carrying Americans left Afghanistan and ended what has been dubbed ‘America’s Longest War.’
It was the day President Joe Biden decided to leave Americans in Afghanistan. It was the day “abandon Americans in need” became part of the Build Back Better platform.

Reports have come in that the last C-17 Globemaster departed Afghanistan at 11:59 p.m. local time on Aug. 30, effectively abandoning hundreds of Americans stranded in the country.

The United States is in touch with 363 Americans who are stuck in war-torn Afghanistan and around 176 U.S. permanent residents who are asking to be evacuated immediately... More than three dozen Connecticut residents are still trying to leave Afghanistan after American forces withdrew. Elected officials, relief organizations, and veterans groups are trying to get them out.
“Their school teachers are calling me asking me where are the students. The 10-year-old student from New Haven who is stuck in Kabul is sending me voicemail messages,” Chris George, executive director of IRIS said.
George is talking about some of the 43 Connecticut residents stuck in Afghanistan. “They’re running out of food and yes, they are running out of hope,” George said.

The Taliban is blocking the take off of at least six planes chartered to evacuate hundreds of people seeking to flee Afghanistan, a top Republican revealed on Sunday.
'We have six airplanes at Mazar Sharif Airport, six airplanes with American citizens on them as I speak, also with these interpreters, and the Taliban is holding them hostage for demands right now,' Representative Michael McCaul of Texas told Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace.
'The state has cleared these flights and the Taliban will not let them leave the airport,' he detailed.

California families described running from gunfire and one father said he was beaten by the Taliban when they were stranded in Afghanistan after the final U.S. troops evacuated, the Associated Press reported.
Seven of the eight families from El Cajon, California, have returned due to coordination with the Cajon Valley Union School District and Republican Representative Darrell Issa.

A White House official said they were "appalled and literally horrified" that President Biden left Americans stranded in Afghanistan, a new report reveals.
An administration official told Politico that they were stunned by the president’s decision to leave Americans behind as the Taliban solidifies their power in the country and reportedly engages in door-to-door executions.
"I am absolutely appalled and literally horrified we left Americans there," the official said. "It was a hostage rescue of thousands of Americans in the guise of a NEO [noncombatant evacuation operations], and we have failed that no-fail mission."

President Biden declared to a puzzled country on Tuesday that the U.S. evacuation from Afghanistan was an "extraordinary success," while his Pentagon portrayed a prosaic, workaday process to repatriate Americans still stranded in the war-torn country.
But text messages between U.S. military commanders and private citizens mounting last-minute rescues tell a far different story, one in which pleading American citizens were frantically left behind at the Kabul airport gate this past weekend to face an uncertain fate under Taliban rule...

As many as 29 students from Sacramento, California, remain trapped in Afghanistan. This has been known since at least the date of the August 31 deadline, but hasn’t gotten much notice in national media for reasons which should be obvious.

President Biden appears to have broken his promise to stay in Afghanistan until every American is evacuated.
Marine Corps Gen. Kenneth F. McKenzie Jr. announced Monday evening that the last of the U.S. troops stationed at the Kabul airport had left, completing the military’s drawdown in the country, even though hundreds of Americans likely remain.
McKenzie, commander of U.S. Central Command, said some American citizens who wanted to leave Afghanistan remained in the country.
"We did not get everybody out that we wanted to get out," he said...
"That's what we're doing now, that's the path we're on. And I think we'll get there," he said. "If there's American citizens left, we're gonna stay to get them all out."

On Monday night, an American citizen who worked as an interpreter for the American military in Afghanistan but was left behind by President Biden told CNN, “I don’t believe in anybody anymore.” She added, “I just can’t believe no one told me that this is the last flight.”
The woman, who spoke with CNN’s Chris Cuomo, used the pseudonym “Sara.” She had previously told CNN that she fed and took care of 19 children in her house, two of them disabled.

The U.S. military and coalition forces evacuated more than `120,000 foreign nationals and at-risk Afghans under the newly created Taliban regime over the last couple of weeks, but they were unable to get every American who wanted to leave the country before President Joe Biden's Aug. 31 deadline arrived...

Most Americans don’t understand what’s happening in Kabul — been on this all night with no end.
U.S. citizens are fighting through enemy lines to get to the airport. When they show their blue passport to 82nd [Airborne] soldiers at the gate, many are turned away and sent back to the Taliban.

Biden: Callous Disregard For Stranded Americans
Biden is "hoping to turn the page" on those Americans, in the words of the Associated Press. It’s no wonder why that’s the case: Biden is a cynical politician who is willing to disregard his responsibilities as a president in order to achieve his domestic agenda. -Zachary Faria
Blumenthal stressed it was a “moral imperative” that we had to evacuate the people left stranded, yet the State Department pointed at the Department of Defense. The Department of Defense pointed at the White House. No one seemed to be addressing the real and continuing question that is an imperative right now, he said.
His point was a critical one. Even now, almost a month and a half after Kabul fell, almost a month since the withdrawal, we still have people stranded with no coordination and no answers from the Biden team, with rescues left up to private individuals and members of Congress to figure out on their own.
That is just shameful. It should be the first thing that is on the mind of everyone in the administration. But it isn’t.
