Madison - A 26-year-old woman was charged Thursday with two felony counts and two misdemeanor counts for allegedly making email threats against Wisconsin lawmakers during the height of the battle over Gov. Scott Walker's budget-repair bill.

Katherine R. Windels of Cross Plains was named in a criminal complaint filed in Dane County Criminal Court.

According to the criminal complaint, Windels allegedly sent an email threat to State Sen. Robert Cowles (R-Green Bay) March 9. Later that evening, she allegedly sent another email to 15 Republican legislators, including Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau).

Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald said he decided to adjourn the Assembly this evening because Gov. Scott Walker called minutes before lawmakers took the floor to tell him to get his caucus members and staff out of the building because their safety could no longer be assured.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Police have hand-cuffed a protester at the state Capitol after he apparently tried to charge into the state Assembly.

Moments before a roll call began in the Assembly Thursday, reporters heard a crash outside the chamber. They rushed out and saw a man on the ground. Police officers were on top of him. They handcuffed him and led him away.

Finally, Walker advised Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald that the physical safety of the members of the assembly could no longer be guaranteed. There had been reports of death threats against Wisconsin lawmakers throughout the week. Fitzgerald decided to adjourn the session, vowing to reconvene on Tuesday, after the Presidents' Day Weekend. Fitzgerald had to be escorted from the chamber by sheriff's deputies.

Madison -- The state's Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating death threats against the lives of some Republican senators, inlcuding email threats against Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald and Sen. Dan Kapanke.

Fitzgerald received at least one death threat in the wake of Wednesday’s vote to repeal most collective bargaining by public employees, his spokesman, Andrew Wellhouse, told the Journal Sentinel.
