Berklee College of Music apologized on social media Tuesday for allowing police officers who were stationed nearby to use the restrooms in its performance center...
On Sunday, Berklee allowed the officers stationed near the campus to use the restroom facilities in the Berklee Performance Center. Two days later, the college's Public Safety Department publicly apologized for allowing the officers access to the restrooms, saying it understands the community feels “betrayed” by the situation.

A college art professor, wielding a fire poker and garden shears, tried to kill a colleague in a case of unrequited love, Massachusetts police said.
Rie Hachiyanagi, 48, a professor of art at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, was ordered held without bail until her next court date on Feb. 4, according to a statement from the Northwestern District Attorney's Office.
Hachiyanagi beat "the victim with a rock, fire poker and garden shears, leaving the victim, who is expected to survive, with severe injuries," prosecutors said.

Melissa Click, the University of Missouri communications professor who garnered widespread scorn for trying to physically remove a student reporter from a campus protest, was formally charged with assault Monday morning. The Goldsmiths diversity officer embroiled in a racism row could lose her job after allegedly tweeting with the hashtag "kill all white men". Bahar Mustafa, the university union's welfare and diversity officer, caught the media's attention after telling white people and men not to come to an event about diversifying the curriculum.
"The current welfare and diversity officer has used hate speech based on race and gender," the union petition, which closes on May 26, reads. "For example, the consistent use of hashtags such as #killallwhitemen and #misandry, and publicly calling someone 'white trash' under the official GSU Welfare and Diversity Officer Twitter account."

A student-sponsored event at Cornell University (CU) claimed capitalism and white supremacy are “institutions that promote rape culture” and “must be destroyed.” The event, which recognized a “National Day of Protest Against Rape Culture” late last month, took place in CU’s William Straight Hall. The Princeton University professor accused of stealing 21 lawn signs for a local computer business was recorded on multiple occasions taking the signs, the business owner said today. Ted Horodynsky, owner of Princeton Computer Repairs, Tutoring and Digital Services, said he noticed his 2-by-2-foot signs, worth more than $20 each, disappearing from private property locations in August and filed several police reports.

Northwestern University admitted Friday that it took disciplinary action against a professor accused of sexually harassing a female student, after finding that he did indeed violate the University's sexual harassment policy. The justices did not comment Monday in refusing to review a Colorado Supreme Court ruling in favor of the university. A Boston University professor has been placed on 18 months of probation after admitting to being involved in a domestic dispute with his girlfriend and two restraining order violations involving his ex-wife. Pedro Lasarte, a Romance languages professor who has taught at the university for 25 years, has “learned from his mistakes,” said his defense attorney, Ryan Caselden. A judge ordered Lasarte to stop drinking, to submit to drug and alcohol screenings, and to attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Warren represented LTV Steel in 1995, when she was a Harvard Law professor, aiding the bankrupt company’s bid to overturn a court ruling forcing it to pay its former employees and dependents $140 million in retirement benefits. Warren was one of two LTV lawyers who wrote a petition to the U.S. Supreme Court challenging the appellate court decision siding with the coal miners, documents obtained by the Herald show.

The first cause for concern is the open way in which professors said they would discriminate against a conservative colleague. Francois Sainfort pleaded guilty to a felony charge of false statement and writing for a February 2008 email to a Georgia Institute of Technology administrator, in which he falsely stated neither he nor his wife had signed employment agreements at the University. A Georgia judge sentenced Sainfort to five years of probation and $43,578 in restitution to Georgia Tech.
A new piece of historical research, featured in today's New York Times makes clear that Yale's role hasn't always been so pure. Much of Yale's original endowment came frome the slave trade (the role of Connecticut and New York in the slave trade is a much-overlooked subject) and the Yale faculty and administration even worked hard to block the establishment of a black college in 1831. The professor was angered by his wife's request for a divorce and waited until she went to sleep before cutting off her lower lip and eating the flesh.
