Bruce Springsteen evaded paying taxes for several years during the early part of his career.
The 67-year-old opened up about the financial problems that landed him in hot water with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) during a candid talk with Tom Hanks at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York on Friday (April 28)...
"First of all, I never met anyone in New Jersey who paid any taxes! We never paid any taxes. The entire state wasn't paying any taxes," the Born to Run rocker said.
Bernie Sanders released his 2014 tax return this weekend, revealing that he and his wife took $60,208 in deductions from their taxable income. These deductions are all perfectly legal and permitted under the U.S. tax code, but they present a morally inconvenient, if delicious, irony:
The Democratic socialist from Vermont, a man who rages against high earners paying a lower effective tax rate than blue-collar workers, saved himself thousands using many of the tricks that would be banned under his own tax plan.
MSNBC, the liberal network that advocates at every turn for a progressive revenue system, is home to four tax delinquents who have all lectured their audience about tax fairness over the years.
Should not Kerry have welcomed the chance to chip in half a million to an insolvent treasury, given his advocacy for higher taxes? Could Kerry not have purchased a smaller yacht for $4 million in order to budget for the necessary taxes?

Last April, the California Tax Franchise Board revealed that Franken owed the state $5,800 in taxes, fines, and penalties because he did not file returns in 2003 through 2007. Franken then admitted that he owed more than $50,000 in back taxes to 17 states.

41 Obama White House aides owe the IRS $831,000 in back taxes -- and they're not alone... The Post's T.W. Farnum did some research and found that out of the total sum, just 638 workers on Capitol Hill owe the IRS $9.3 million in back taxes. As in, overdue. The IRS gets stiffed by the legislative body that controls its budget.

Though a lifelong Ohioan, the Senator moved to Florida in 2002, according to a declaration of domicile filed with the Broward County Clerk's office in 2003. In doing so, he avoided paying his home state's income tax (top rate: 6.55%).
President Obama has done a lot of talking the last year about Americans paying their fair share of taxes. Apparently he means, Do as I say, not as my staff does. A new report from the Internal Revenue Service has just revealed that 40 of Obama's White House aides owe their employer, the federal government, a total of $333,485 in back taxes.

One of America’s most powerful labor leaders, teachers union president Randi Weingarten, has quietly moved out of New York City, a decision that saved her from paying more than $30,000 in city income taxes that she would have owed if she had stayed.

So far this tax season, the state Department of Revenue has received 1,971,000 returns. And of those 1.971 million filers, exactly 862 have checked the box to pay at the old, higher 5.85 percent rate rather than the current 5.3 percent rate.

As of 2005, the tax rate on U.S.-based trusts was 49 percent on everything above the first $2 million. But as of 2005, the Kennedys, who had transferred at least $300 million in trust funds from one generation to another, had paid a mere $132,000 in estate taxes -- a rate of four one-hundredths of one percent.[5] Had they set up those trusts in the United states, they would have owed more than 7,000 times that amount in taxes.

Massachusetts Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren favors higher taxes on multi-millionaires like herself, but when given the chance to personally contribute more on her state tax return, she declined. The Boston Herald’s Joe Battenfeld reported (via Twitter) on Friday that after weeks of dodging the issue, Warren confirmed that she did not elect to pay a higher tax rate in Massachusetts. The state’s tax return gives taxpayers the option of paying a higher rate of 5.85 percent, as opposed to the standard rate of 5.3 percent.
During a Wednesday confirmation hearing before the Senate Finance Committee, Obama Treasury Secretary nominee Jack Lew pled ignorance to a $56,000 investment he held in a Cayman Islands fund registered to Ugland House, the exact building that President Barack Obama has called “the largest tax scam in the world.”

Former U.S. representative Jesse Jackson Jr. pleaded guilty Wednesday to using campaign money to buy more than $750,000 worth of luxury items, collectibles and clothes - marking the fall of a man once heralded as one of Illinois' most promising politicians. Jackson's wife, Sandi, a former Chicago alderman, also pleaded guilty Wednesday to a separate felony charge of filing false tax returns over six years. The former Democratic congressman, who represented a district that included parts of Chicago's South Side and south suburbs, was first elected to office in 1995, replacing Democrat Mel Reynolds, who resigned after being convicted of statutory rape.

Here was White House Press Secretary Jay Carney last week: "How do you explain to a senior that we're doing this, asking you to sacrifice, but we're not saying that corporate jet owners should lose their special tax incentive." Listening to the White House, you might think that the "balanced" Democratic plan to avert the spending cuts would close that loophole for private jets. But you would be wrong. The Senate Democratic plan - which has been endorsed by the White House and is, in fact, the only Democratic plan actively under consideration right now - doesn't touch corporate jets.

James H. Simons, who became a billionaire when he turned his extraordinary mathematical ability from defense work to investing, has deployed an unusual strategy at Renaissance Technologies LLC to skirt hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes for himself and other investors, said people with knowledge of the matter. Simons and his wife, Marilyn, gave $9.6 million to Democratic groups in 2012, including a “super-PAC” that backed President Obama, according to data compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics.

Hanks, 57, has a primary residence in California which means the Tax Man only allows him to spend 183 days per year at his apartment in NYC and the Apollo 13 is already at about 149 days this year, so he has to be careful now with how he splits his time. According to Showbiz411, the A-lister even had to skip out early at his Captain Phillips preem at the New York Film Festival last Friday night because he had to fly back to California so he didn’t take up an extra day of his New York time.

Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, one of Obamacare's architects and staunchest supporters, is also the only top congressional leader to exempt some of his staff from having to buy insurance through the law's new exchanges... In September, Reid told reporters, "Let's stop these really juvenile political games -- the one dealing with health care for senators and House members and our staff. We are going to be part of exchanges, that's what the law says and we'll be part of that."

The Internal Revenue Service has placed a tax lien on Melissa Harris-Perry and her husband, James Perry, for about $70,000 in delinquent taxes, according to a notice filed in Forsyth County Hall of Justice earlier this month.
