The Legacy Of Obamacare

On Friday night, President Obama said on ABC’s 20/20 that Obamacare will be a "legacy" he is "extraordinarily proud of."

In an interview with Fast Company, Obama concedes that HealthCare.gov was a "well-documented disaster" Go To Site

Mr. Obama’s signature domestic achievement will almost certainly have to change to survive. The two parties agree that for too many people, health plans in the individual insurance market are still too expensive and inaccessible. -Robert Pear, NYT, Oct 2016 Go To Site

[Apr 2016]: The cost of health care is the greatest financial concern among American families with 15 percent of U.S. adults citing the issue as their top economic worry, according to a new Gallup poll. Anxiety about low wages ranked as the second most important financial concern while debt and college expenses followed.

In remarks in the Rose Garden, Mr. Obama acknowledged serious technical issues with the Web site, declaring that “no one is madder than me.” He offered no new information about how many people have managed to enroll since the online exchanges opened on Oct. 1. And he did not address questions about who, if anyone, might be held responsible for the failure.

They just lied to people.

“But frankly, he should never have said as much as he did, that if you like your current health care plan, you can keep it. That wasn’t true. And you shouldn’t lie to people. And they just lied to people.”

[Oct 2016]: Tennessee is ground zero for ObamaCare’s nationwide implosion. Late last month the state insurance commissioner, Julie Mix McPeak, approved premium increases of up to 62% in a bid to save the exchange set up under the Affordable Care Act. “I would characterize the exchange market in Tennessee as very near collapse,” she said.

All told, more than 60% of our state’s ObamaCare consumers will lose their coverage heading into 2017. When they go in search of a replacement plan, they will confront two unfortunate realities: a dearth of options and skyrocketing costs.

I had in mind what Jimmy Carter, who ranks with James Buchanan and a few others as among America’s worst and most inept presidents, said about Obama.

When asked by Parade magazine how he would evaluate the Obama presidency so far, Carter said this: He’s done the best he could under the circumstances. His major accomplishment was Obamacare, and the implementation of it now is questionable at best. -Peter Wehner Go To Site
