Hypocrisy is nothing new to celebrities and politicians that make the push to go green. First, it was John Travolta, preaching about the catastrophic consequences global warming with five (yes, five) private jets that he likes to fly for ‘business purposes’.
The Export-Import Bank of the United States recently announced a milestone: Under Obama, the agency has subsidized the sale of $1 billion in private jet sales to overseas customers... During the 2011 debt-ceiling fight, for example, Obama harped on “tax breaks for corporate jet owners,” mentioning it six times in a June 29 press conference. -Timothy P. Carney

He may lack the ebullience of his earlier years, yet Turner shuttles endlessly among his 28 properties — 14 of them ranches with 55,000 bison — traveling hundreds of thousands of miles per year on his private Challenger jet... “Certainly the Tea Party people are mean-spirited. It’s so heartbreaking to have [them] say that global warming is a hoax.”

Despite his environmentally-conscious stance on green issues, the Black Eyed Peas rapper, 37, chose to take a private helicopter to the venue. It is understood the journey, which is a 286 mile round-trip from London, used 71.5 gallons of fuel and released three-quarters of a ton of CO2 into the atmosphere. He even tweeted pictures of the so-called “hip.hop.copter” for fans to admire, after landing at the Oxford's University Parks. From there, the singer used a pedal cycle to travel the remaining few hundred yards to the Radcliffe Observatory Weather Centre.

She has been dubbed a Gulfstream liberal for flying occasionally in a private jet, and castigated for her second home on Martha's Vineyard. "It's so easy to marginalise people," she says in self-defence.
"Yes, I take a private plane on holiday a couple of times a year, and I feel horribly guilty about it. I probably shouldn't do it. But the truth is, I'm not perfect. This is not about perfection. I don't expect anybody else to be perfect either. That's what hurts the environmental movement - holding people to a standard they cannot meet. That just pushes people away."
It was Abedin who emailed Clinton in July 2009 to ask her about her preferred travel arrangements when a private jet wasn't available as planned. What to do? Wait an extra three hours for a 19-passenger Gulfstream III aircraft, or settle for the six-seat Learjet that's fueled and ready? 'The g3 is delayed till 5pm wheels up,' Abedin wrote her. 'There is a lear available at 2pm with 6 seats. Do u want to just leave at 5?' -David Martosko

Leonardo DiCaprio, who is urging the world to go "green," insisted yesterday that he is not a do-as-I-say, not-as-I-do hypocrite because he takes the occasional gas-guzzling private jet... "We're all trying the best we can; truly, we really are," he said.
If all goes according to plan, Hollywood icon Leonardo DiCaprio will blast into space aboard the maiden voyage of Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic spaceship sometime this year, opening up a new era of civilian space travel.
The desert lair that millionaires fly to in their personal jets in order to catch their personal space flights will have remarkably efficient heating and cooling systems. Three cheers for the environment. -Salvatore Babones
Enviro-Crusaders Prepare to Spew Black Carbon
Have $200,000 to spend on a seat into space? You may want to re-think the expenditure given a new study in Geophysical Research Letters that shows space tourism will likely aggravate global climate change.

The big threat from the scaling-up of space travel, they say, comes from something called black carbon—a type of particulate matter that, when hurled into the stratosphere, builds up for years, absorbing visible light from the sun. According to one study, black carbon emitted into the stratosphere by rockets would absorb 100,000 times as much energy as the CO2 emitted by those rockets. "There's one issue and it's simple: you don't want to put black carbon in the stratosphere. Period," says Darin Toohey, a professor of atmospheric and oceanic sciences at the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Just recently, [Sergey] Brin signed up to be a space tourist; he has recently put a $5 million down payment to take a joyride through space with Space Adventures Ltd... The Soyuz rocket on which Sergey will ride uses 278 tonnes (metric tons) of kerosene-based fuel... the 33,000 gallons burned by Sergey on his indulgence would be enough for him to trade in his Prius and drive an Escalade for over 55 years.

Her environmental activism has led to her arrest on two separate occasions, but Daryl Hannah’s endeavours away from the film-set were given a perilous twist on Sunday evening when her plane dramatically lost cabin pressure. The 53-year-old actress was flying to Klagenfurt in Austria, where she was to visit a solar energy facility, when the plane alarm rang out at 10,000m.

First we’re told again of this ariline owner’s noble efforts to stop global warming, which he insists is caused by man-made gases - like the ones spewed out by his own jets: He told the students sustainability continued to be a major part of business, but urged more big companies to follow his lead… “I try to do a lot about it.”... Hypocrisy is the vice we find hardest to forgive, but it’s also the one we most enjoy discovering in others. And nothing piques our interest more than eco-hypocrisy as practised by the “green” celebrities who have been spouting green virtue but spewing out hundreds of tons of carbon from their private jets or multiple holiday homes around the globe.

Sept. 2014: NBC is so determined to keep “Today” host Matt Lauer happy after its rocky patch with the show, it’s agreed to foot the bill for helicopters to fly him to the Hamptons and back.
"So you can look me in the eye and say that you are a president committed to cleaning up the environment?" -Matt Lauer to President George W. Bush
"Our assault on nature is killing off the very things we depend on for our own lives....The stark reality is that there are simply too many of us, and we consume way too much, especially here at home....It will take a massive global effort to make things right, but the solutions are not a secret: control population, recycle, reduce consumption, develop green technologies." -Matt Lauer

THE HAGUE — For two years, Pascal Husting’s employer chartered a jet to shuttle him most weeks between his home in Luxembourg and his office in Amsterdam. Driving would have taken almost three hours but a private jet took just over one. So it was a no-brainer for Madonna, who chartered her own airline for a trip home from a Birmingham concert to London last Wednesday, according to new reports in The Sun newspaper.
The decision enraged environmental activists, as well as her loyal followers who accused the 57-year-old Unapologetic singer of being a 'hypocrite' for increasing her carbon footprint when she herself campaigns to help the climate crisis.
