John Kerry, President Joe Biden's new climate czar, took a private jet to accept an environmental award in Iceland in 2019. "It's the only choice for somebody like me, who is traveling the world to win this battle," he unironically told a reporter when asked about it.
If this sounds like a clueless joke, it's not. President Biden's chief environmental officer took the least carbon-efficient means of travel known to man because it was "the only choice" he could think of for a member in good standing of the indulged upper classes.

But according to Italian press reports, the attendees were expected to show up in 114 private jets, and 40 had arrived by Sunday.
The Post crunched the numbers and found that 114 flights from Los Angeles to Palermo, Italy, where Camp guests landed, would spew an estimated 100,000 kilograms of CO2 into the air.

It is understood the journey, which is a 286 mile round-trip from London, used 71.5 gallons of fuel and released three-quarters of a ton of CO2 into the atmosphere. He even tweeted pictures of the so-called “hip.hop.copter” for fans to admire, after landing at the Oxford's University Parks. From there, the singer used a pedal cycle to travel the remaining few hundred yards to the Radcliffe Observatory Weather Centre.

The big threat from the scaling-up of space travel, they say, comes from something called black carbon—a type of particulate matter that, when hurled into the stratosphere, builds up for years, absorbing visible light from the sun. According to one study, black carbon emitted into the stratosphere by rockets would absorb 100,000 times as much energy as the CO2 emitted by those rockets. "There's one issue and it's simple: you don't want to put black carbon in the stratosphere. Period," says Darin Toohey, a professor of atmospheric and oceanic sciences at the University of Colorado, Boulder.

A new study, accepted for publication in Geophysical Research Letters, predicts that soot emitted by rockets in the upper atmosphere would lead to significant disruption to the world's climatic system resulting in a net increase in temperatures...

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) records indicate that the family of U.S. Special Envoy for Climate John Kerry owns a private jet, despite his position on combatting fossil fuels in the new administration.
The FAA's registry shows a Gulfstream Aerospace jet owned by Flying Squirrel LLC, the name previously reported for Teresa Heinz-Kerry's private charter jet company. The company's listed address matches that of the Heinz Family Foundation...
"I'd be honored to speak," Clinton said in reference to Betty Ford's funeral. "Is it OK that we and Mrs. O take two separate planes?"
A simpler explanation for the hypocrisy of celebrities who moralize about climate change is that it is a way of flaunting their special status.
Hypocrisy is the ultimate power move. It is a way of demonstrating that one plays by a different set of rules from the ones adhered to by common people. Hypocrisy demonstrates how unaccountable one is to conventional morality.
