From the days of our youth, my generation hungered for a cause that would make us as righteous as the saints who marched on Selma. We have found that cause.
We have sunk our teeth into that righteousness and, at this point, we couldn’t care less if it’s real. The Lord of Social Justice has finally answered our prayers.
And Lord help the bigot who comes between us and our cause. -Hans Fiene, Selma Envy
Once he broke free and swam to the surface, Kennedy said that he dove back down seven or eight times to rescue Kopechne. Failing, he swam back to shore and checked back into his hotel, and a short time later lodged a noise complaint with the desk clerk. The people in the room next to his were partying and it was interfering with his sleep. Then he asked the desk clerk for the time. According to the Aug. 4, 1969 edition of Newsweek, that clerk, Russell E. Peachey, told Kennedy it was 2:25 a.m., then asked, "Is there anything else I can do for you?" "No, thank you," Kennedy replied.

The most generous five states of the union are Utah, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, and South Carolina — all red states. The least generous states are Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire — all blue states. Utah is the most generous, giving over ten percent of its discretionary income to religious or secular charities.

The grieving father also described his brief encounter with President Obama during the ceremony for the Libya victims. “When he finally came over to where we were, I could tell that he was rather conflicted, a person who was not at peace with himself,” Woods said. “Shaking hands with him, quite frankly, was like shaking hands with a dead fish. His face was pointed towards me but he would not look me in the eye, his eyes were over my shoulder.” “I could tell that he was not sorry,” he added. “He had no remorse.”

The mother of an American diplomat killed during a terrorist raid on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi has hit out at Barack Obama for describing the attack as 'not optimal', saying: 'My son is not very optimal - he is also very dead.' During an interview shown on Comedy Central, Obama responded to a question about his administration's confused communication after the assault by saying: 'If four Americans get killed, it’s not optimal.' Speaking exclusively to MailOnline today, Pat Smith, whose son Sean died in the raid, said: 'It was a disrespectful thing to say and I don't think it's right. 'How can you say somebody being killed is not very optimal? I don't think the President has the right idea of the English language.'

Barack Obama only started making substantial donations to charity when he became a public figure. From 2000 through 2004, before being elected to the United States Senate, Obama gave less than 2% of his earnings to charity even though he made $250,000 a year (In the two previous years, Obama gave less than 1% of his income to charity). Since becoming a national figure, that amount has jumped to about 6%.

Democrat Elizabeth Warren, who has made fighting for workers a focus of her Senate campaign, was a hired legal gun for a steel conglomerate trying to dodge paying health and pension benefits to thousands of retired coal miners, records show. Warren represented LTV Steel in 1995, when she was a Harvard Law professor, aiding the bankrupt company’s bid to overturn a court ruling forcing it to pay its former employees and dependents $140 million in retirement benefits. Warren was one of two LTV lawyers who wrote a petition to the U.S. Supreme Court challenging the appellate court decision siding with the coal miners, documents obtained by the Herald show.

Coburn, a medical doctor battling cancer, panned the coverage offered to cancer patients.

The release of Mitt Romney’s 2011 tax returns shows that he freely gave away more than $4 million to charity last year (about 30 percent of his income). In comparison, when Joe Biden was first running for vice president, his tax returns showed that he had given away just $3,690 to charity over the previous ten years (about 0.2 percent of his income). In other words, Romney gave away a thousand times as much to charity in one year as Biden gave in a decade.

Red states give more money to charity than blue states, according to a new study on Monday. The eight states with residents who gave the highest share of their income to charity supported Sen. John McCain in 2008, while the seven states with the least generous residents went for President Barack Obama, the Chronicle of Philanthropy found in its new survey of tax data from the IRS for 2008.
The eight states whose residents gave the highest share of their income — Utah, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, Idaho, Arkansas and Georgia — all backed McCain in 2008. Utah leads charitable giving, with 10.6 percent of income given.
2013 US Charitable Giving Per County
When it comes to charitable giving in the United States, it's not the wealthy northeast and West Coast communities that contribute at the highest rates. It's the southern states, Utah and parts of Idaho.
Forty-eight of the 50 counties whose residents gave the highest proportion of their income to charity in 2013 were located in those areas, according to recently released IRS figures detailing itemized tax returns.
The left derives its sense of moral authority from the supposition that its intentions are altruistic and its opponents' are selfish.
