Women And Minorities Hardest Hit

In an Oval Office meeting on Dec. 29, 10 of President Obama’s top economic advisers stood before him discussing the heated fiscal negotiations. Every one was a man.

ONLY two of the 20-plus reporters who covered the presidential campaign for The New York Times were black. None were Latino or Asian.

That’s less diversity than you’ll find in Donald Trump’s cabinet thus far.

A woman who says she was raped as a 12-year-old girl by an Arkansas man who was defended by a young novice defense attorney named Hillary Clinton says the future presidential candidate smeared her to get her attacker off with a light sentence...

The woman told The Daily Beast Clinton intentionally lied about her in court documents, went to extraordinary lengths to discredit evidence of the rape, and later callously acknowledged - even laughed - about her attackers’ guilt on the recordings. Go To Site

Alphabet Inc.’s Google failed to persuade a judge to block class-action status for a gender-pay disparity lawsuit brought on behalf of almost 11,000 women.

A San Francisco state judge certified the class action Thursday, allowing the four lead plaintiffs to represent 10,800 women over claims that Google pays men more for doing the same job. A previously disclosed analysis showed that the case seeks more than $600 million in damages...

The women leading the Google suit said in a July court filing that the company paid female employees approximately $16,794 less per year than “the similarly-situated man,” citing an analysis by David Neumark, an economist at University of California at Irvine. “Google paid women less base salary, smaller bonuses, and less stock than men in the same job code and location,” they said...

Google agreed to pay almost $2.6 million to settle U.S. Labor Department allegations that the technology company potentially underpaid thousands of female workers in software engineering positions, and discriminated against women and Asian job applicants.

The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) said Tuesday that it would place CNN on a "special media monitoring list," citing a lack of black representation among the network's leadership ranks.

NABJ said in a statement that its preliminary research showed that CNN has no black employees reporting to CNN President Jeff Zucker. It also showed that the news organization has no black executive producers as well as no black vice presidents or senior vice presidents on the news side...

The group said that it its delegation is engaged in "very positive outreach" with other media companies and has met or scheduled meetings with ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC.

Last year, former CNN morning anchor Soledad O'Brien slammed the network and the cable news industry at large for what she said is a lack of diversity on the senior level.

A group of university professors recently claimed that social-justice activism, of all fields, is “rife with experiences of oppression.”

In an article published Monday in the Journal of Homosexuality, Dr. Whitney Hagen of Florida Atlantic University, et al. argue that “activist communities” are hostile toward gay and transgender populations, adding that individuals with “multiple oppressed statuses and identities” are “especially prone to oppression-based experiences, even within minority activist communities.”

While some individuals “may find social support and decreased isolation through engagement with established activist groups,” they caution that “activism is not universally helpful,” particularly for those with “multiple oppressed identities,” who “may experience invalidation, tokenism, and marginalization within activist communities.”
