ONLY two of the 20-plus reporters who covered the presidential campaign for The New York Times were black. None were Latino or Asian.
That’s less diversity than you’ll find in Donald Trump’s cabinet thus far.

A woman who says she was raped as a 12-year-old girl by an Arkansas man who was defended by a young novice defense attorney named Hillary Clinton says the future presidential candidate smeared her to get her attacker off with a light sentence...
The woman told The Daily Beast Clinton intentionally lied about her in court documents, went to extraordinary lengths to discredit evidence of the rape, and later callously acknowledged - even laughed - about her attackers’ guilt on the recordings.
I admired her. I wanted to be like her. She had earned the endorsement of the National Organization for Women, but when a freshman Democrat named Chris Van Hollen challenged her in 2002, NOW dropped its support of this accomplished Republican congresswoman. -Dana Perino

The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) said Tuesday that it would place CNN on a "special media monitoring list," citing a lack of black representation among the network's leadership ranks.
NABJ said in a statement that its preliminary research showed that CNN has no black employees reporting to CNN President Jeff Zucker. It also showed that the news organization has no black executive producers as well as no black vice presidents or senior vice presidents on the news side...
The group said that it its delegation is engaged in "very positive outreach" with other media companies and has met or scheduled meetings with ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC.
Last year, former CNN morning anchor Soledad O'Brien slammed the network and the cable news industry at large for what she said is a lack of diversity on the senior level.

A group of university professors recently claimed that social-justice activism, of all fields, is “rife with experiences of oppression.”
In an article published Monday in the Journal of Homosexuality, Dr. Whitney Hagen of Florida Atlantic University, et al. argue that “activist communities” are hostile toward gay and transgender populations, adding that individuals with “multiple oppressed statuses and identities” are “especially prone to oppression-based experiences, even within minority activist communities.”
While some individuals “may find social support and decreased isolation through engagement with established activist groups,” they caution that “activism is not universally helpful,” particularly for those with “multiple oppressed identities,” who “may experience invalidation, tokenism, and marginalization within activist communities.”

An Illinois college has restricted certain sections of a mandatory introductory course to black students.
“While helping my son register for college at Moraine Valley Community College, we noticed that the required course College 101 has two sections limited to African-American students," one concerned parent told The Chicago Tribune. "He wants to know why there are not two sections limited to Asian-American students? How about Native American students?"
This segregation of students by race seems odd, especially considering the course’s emphasis on diversity.
In April 2012, the Obama re-election campaign posted a photo of a staff meeting on its Tumblr account. The aides in the picture were young, casually dressed, and enthusiastic — and nearly all white... Staff at the Human Rights Campaign last fall described the working environment at the nation’s largest LGBT rights group as “judgmental,” “exclusionary,” “sexist,” and “homogenous,” according to a sharply critical report that was commissioned by HRC and obtained by BuzzFeed News.
Based on a series of focus groups and surveys with the staff, conducted by outside consultants, the report detailed systemic problems within HRC — ranging from treatment of employees, including those who are transgender, to concerns about human resources and organizational commitment to diversity and inclusion.

President Bill Clinton released a statement, together with his wife Hillary Clinton, hailing the Supreme Court's decision to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act, a bill he signed into law in 1996.
As with Bill Clinton, and his alleged assaults on Paula Jones, Juanita Broddrick and Kathleen Willey, tribal loyalties to party kin outweighed any concern for women as a group -- or for the accusers as individuals. The accusers were tossed over the side until the publicity became too strong to ignore. Democrats -- like Hillary with Bill -- stood by their man, Tammy Wynette-style. -Glenn Reynolds

In late 2011, Gabryszak told Freling he was sending her a recorded message to play to his constituents — but instead sent her a video “of him in a bathroom, either receiving or pretending to be receiving fellatio,” the papers allege. Freling said she quit in May after complaining to Gabryszak’s chief of staff to no avail. ... Last year, Gabryszak championed an anti-workplace-harassment bill.
