Liberal Social Media: Shutting Up The Opposition

The government can’t suppress conservative speech on the ground that it is "hate speech," i.e., something that liberals don’t like. That was recently reaffirmed by a 9-0 decision of the Supreme Court. So liberals have outsourced censorship of the internet to the tech titans of Silicon Valley. -John Hinderaker

“America hates you!!!” wrote the inconsolable mother of a U.S. Marine killed at the Kabul airport to President Joe Biden. It didn’t take long for the president’s Big Tech buddies to help out their guy and shut her down...

Silicon Valley’s Big Tech oligarchs stepped in to save their friend from Chappell’s harsh words.

Chappell’s Facebook page was suspended and it looks as if Biden trolls reported several of her Instagram posts, earning her “warnings” from the anti-free speech scolds on several posts that were months old.

Facebook blocked an ad that promoted a song critical of President Joe Biden's botched Afghanistan withdrawal, raising questions about how it applies its advertising rules.

The social media giant twice prohibited Five For Fighting's John Ondrasik from purchasing an ad to promote his new single "Blood On My Hands." Facebook claimed the song, which slams the Biden administration for abandoning hundreds of Americans and thousands of Afghan allies, "violated their policy on either politics or social issues." The song singles out Biden, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Mark Milley...

A Wall Street Journal report found that Facebook maintains a list of almost six million public figures who are exempted from content moderation regulations...

Ondrasik said his song, written the day 13 Americans and 60 Afghans were killed by an ISIS suicide bomber, fits in the "great tradition of artists speaking their minds and calling out their leaders for answers." In a Wednesday Facebook post, Ondrasik said, "I'm glad Joan Baez, Woody Guthrie, Dylan, Creedence (fave), and CSYN [sic] didn't live in the age of FB overlords."

Twitter suspended popular conservative commentator and podcaster Allie Beth Stuckey late Thursday afternoon for a tweet that said of transgender Olympic weightlifting competitor, Laura Hubbard, “Hubbard failing at the event doesn’t make his inclusion fair. He’s still a man, and men shouldn’t compete against women in weightlifting.”

For this, Stuckey received notification that she had violated Twitter’s policy against “hateful conduct.”...

To regain access to her account, Twitter demanded Stuckey take down the offending tweet and one other that said of Hubbard, “He’s an overweight middle-aged dude that still qualified for the Olympics by saying he’s a woman, so I don’t really think you’ve got a valid argument [that Hubbard’s loss proves biological men don’t have a competitive advantage] here.”

Larry Sanger, who co-founded Wikipedia in 2001, says that the free online encyclopedia has become “more one-sided than ever” and is dominated by liberal sources in such a way that makes it “an opponent of vigorous democracy.”

“Wikipedia openly repudiates neutrality, and therefore it is shamelessly hypocritical in how it continues to pay lip service to its “neutral point of view” policy,’” Sanger wrote on his website last week. “A lot of mainstream news stories are broken only in Fox News, the Daily Mail, and the New York Post—all of which are banned from use as sources by Wikipedia.”

Francisco José Contreras, a politician in Spain, was temporarily suspended from Twitter last week after declaring that “a man cannot get pregnant” because he has “no uterus or eggs,” in response to an article he shared about a transgender “male” who gave birth.

“I’ve been blocked from Twitter for 12 hours for ‘hate speech'” Contreras announced on Facebook.

Twitter claims that Contreras broke their rules “banning hate speech behaviors.”

There is a “free speech emergency” in the United States circa 2021. The pretend-anguished cries of sexual exotics are only part of the story.

Even as this tale of fake woe was circulating, Jen Psaki, press secretary to Joe Biden, titular president of the United States, informed the White House propaganda committee that “We’re flagging problematic posts for Facebook that spread disinformation.”

Why? So Facebook can exercise its power to keep Americans in line and on message when it comes to any subject the junta decides the plebs need to be at one about.

And who decides what counts as “disinformation”? Shut up.

LinkedIn censored posts from a China critic based in the United Kingdom, the professional networking site's latest attempt to appease the Chinese Communist Party.

China critic Peter Humphrey, who lives in the United Kingdom, was locked out of his account and saw that his comments calling China an "oppressive dictatorship" had been removed, according to a Bloomberg report Tuesday. LinkedIn originally told Humphrey that he had violated the platform's terms of service but now says the removal was "an error."

It is unclear whether the Chinese government pressured the platform to remove Humphrey's content. LinkedIn is the only major American social media network in China, where it censors users' content.

The Chinese government has castigated LinkedIn for not sufficiently censoring certain political content. In March, the Cyberspace Administration of China blocked LinkedIn from accepting more users and made the company submit a report detailing its failures to the government.

Facebook just released a statement reacting to the oversight board's decision this morning ruling that Facebook can keep blocking former President Trump from using its platform.

"As we stated in January, we believe our decision was necessary and right, and we’re pleased the board has recognized that the unprecedented circumstances justified the exceptional measure we took," Nick Clegg, VP of Global Affairs and Communications, said in the statement.

Facebook and Instagram are censoring users from sharing a New York Post report regarding the luxury homes purchased by Black Lives Matter Co-founder, Patrisse Khan-Cullors, in predominantly white neighborhoods.

The article was published on April 10 and states that Cullors had purchased “four high-end homes for $3.2 million” in the United States since 2016...

Facebook users noticed on Thursday that they could not share the link to the Post’s article on Cullors’ multi-million-dollar property portfolio directly on their timeline or through the Messenger app.

Facebook scrubbed a recent interview between Lara Trump and former President Donald Trump this week; claiming the chat “violated” rules and regulations after the ex-Commander-in-Chief was banned from the platform last January.

“The voice of President Trump is not currently allowed on our platforms (including new posts with President Trump speaking),” wrote the social network. “[Content] will be removed if posted, resulting in additional limitations on accounts that posted it.”

“This guidance applies to all campaign accounts and Pages, including Team Trump, other campaign messaging vehicles on our platforms, and former surrogates,” the email, posted on Instagram by Trump’s son, Eric Trump, stated.

Facebook Censors Incorrect Thoughts...

... Nor has Facebook eased up in subsequent months. For example, in April Facebook blackballed a mother for daring to criticize the radical Marxist and racist policies of her school board.

Since then, Facebook has shut down a pro-Israel Christian site with 77 million followers and blocked the viewing of reviews of a climate book by former Obama science advisor Steve Koonin that raised doubts about the theory of human-caused climate change.

Facebook completely beclowned itself when it decided to censor information that could be seen as agreeing with Trump or vindicating him on the origins of the coronavirus and promising treatments.

In March, the company had to admit that it had been premature in its decision to censor information about the lab-leak theory.

Approved Organs of Acceptable Thought...

"If society’s main information sources march in ideological lockstep, they make a mockery of democracy. Then the wealthy and powerful need only gain control of the few approved organs of acceptable thought; then they will be able to manipulate and ultimately control all important political dialogue."

Facebook cofounder Dustin Moskovitz has poured over $5 million into a network of nonprofits run by Black Lives Matter leader Patrisse Cullors, according to financial disclosure records, raising questions about whether this relationship played a role in the company's decision to censor unflattering news articles about the activist last week.

The social media giant blocked its users from posting links to a New York Post story that revealed Cullors, a self-described Marxist, spent $3.2 million on high-end real estate as her Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation raked in millions in donations.

"He is not 'stuck on the sidelines.' He is free to compete against other men," Scott tweeted. "The whole 'I was astonished' act is tired and dishonest. If any competitive sport highlights the differences [between] men & women that EVERYONE KNOWS ARE REAL, it is powerlifting."

Google banned a video explaining Christian teaching on same-sex marriage from advertising on YouTube after backlash from upset employees, according to internal Google communications reviewed by The Daily Caller News Foundation.

The video was flagged in June 2018 in an internal listserv, “Yes at Google,” which is run by Google’s human resources department, according to those communications and other internal documents, which a source shared with TheDCNF on condition of anonymity.

The listserv has more than 30,000 members and is devoted to policing “microaggressions” and “micro-corrections” within the company, according to its official internal description.

The internal backlash to the video grew large enough to merit a response from a Google vice president, who said the video would no longer be eligible to run as an advertisement, the human resources team announced to the listserv.

Christian radio host Michael L. Brown argues in the video that gay people are welcome as Christians but that, like every other person, they are called to follow Christian teachings on sex and marriage.

Twitter admitted on Monday to “removing” a post from Federalist co-founder Sean Davis, but the journalist claims the platform actually shadowbanned, or hid the content from other users.

The post, about Lisa Page’s congressional testimony, was shown as an active post when Davis looked at it on his account, but the URL actually displayed the same way as a deleted tweet for other users — essentially making it invisible to the public...

Davis then questioned why Twitter would remove the post, but make it appear as though it had not been removed when Davis himself looked at the tweet.

“Twitter confirmed to me today via e-mail that it did shadowban one of my tweets about Lisa Page’s congressional testimony in order to ‘keep people safe[.]’ Twitter deliberately deleted the tweet/URL, yet kept it visible for me when I was logged in so I’d think it was still up,” Davis explained.

In sworn testimony, Google CEO Sundar Pichai told Congress last month that his company does not “manually intervene” on any particular search result. Yet an internal discussion thread leaked to Breitbart News reveals Google regularly intervenes in search results on its YouTube video platform – including a recent intervention that pushed pro-life videos out of the top ten search results for “abortion.”

The term “abortion” was added to a “blacklist” file for “controversial YouTube queries,” which contains a list of search terms that the company considers sensitive.

Google employees debated whether to bury conservative media outlets in the company’s search function as a response to President Donald Trump’s election in 2016, internal Google communications obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation reveal.

The Daily Caller and Breitbart were specifically singled out as outlets to potentially bury, the communications reveal. Trump’s election in 2016 shocked many Google employees, who had been counting on Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton to win.

Communications obtained by TheDCNF show that internal Google discussions went beyond expressing remorse over Clinton’s loss to actually discussing ways Google could prevent Trump from winning again.

Twitter is limiting the visibility of prominent Republicans in search results — a technique known as “shadow banning” — in what it says is a side effect of its attempts to improve the quality of discourse on the platform...

Democrats are not being “shadow banned” in the same way, according to a VICE News review. McDaniel’s counterpart, Democratic Party chair Tom Perez, and liberal members of Congress — including Reps. Maxine Waters, Joe Kennedy III, Keith Ellison, and Mark Pocan — all continue to appear in drop-down search results. Not a single member of the 78-person Progressive Caucus faces the same situation in Twitter’s search.

Rumours that Twitter has begun ‘shadowbanning’ politically inconvenient users have been confirmed by a source inside the company, who spoke exclusively to Breitbart Tech. His claim was corroborated by a senior editor at a major publisher.

According to the source, Twitter maintains a ‘whitelist’ of favoured Twitter accounts and a ‘blacklist’ of unfavoured accounts. Accounts on the whitelist are prioritised in search results, even if they’re not the most popular among users. Meanwhile, accounts on the blacklist have their posts hidden from both search results and other users’ timelines.
