Education, as opposed to indoctrination, requires people to have the freedom to test out new ideas and question existing orthodoxies. Throughout history, every major intellectual breakthrough has inevitably involved upsetting those whose entrenched beliefs finally have been scrutinised. -The Conversation
By succeeding in their “long march” through higher education, today’s progressive professors and administrators have created an academic environment, abetted by vaguely written anti-discrimination laws, that internalizes censorship through shaming, intimidation, and threats of legal sanction. The effect is the same as the more brutal techniques of totalitarian states: dissent is driven off campus, making it easier for progressives to indoctrinate and mold to their own ends the susceptible and undeveloped minds of students. -Bruce Thornton
A freshman at Delaware couldn’t escape the ideological, highly politicized messages about consumerism, social justice, affirmative action, world redistribution of wealth, and so on. The messages were woven into the fabric of the very place where students slept or talked late into the night. The door decorations were not the usual “Hello, My Name Is,” but rather featured the “three interlocking circles” of “sustainability”: “social justice,” “healthy environments,” and “strong economies.”
The academic left has created a great deal of mischief by appropriating wholesome words for unwholesome ends. This game has been perfected with diversity, inclusion, social justice, and sustainability—all words that mean roughly the opposite of what they sound like. -Peter Wood
"If the classroom situation is very heteropatriarchal - a large beginning class of 50 to 60 students, say, with few feminist students - I am likely to define my task as largely one of recruitment ... of persuading students that women are oppressed" - Professor Joyce Trebilcot of Washington University

A group of 16 students at California Polytechnic State University produced an alternative guide for freshmen completing the university’s orientation program they call a “Disorientation Guide.” The students said they hope it will "decolonize your mind from the hold of the cissexist-imperialist-ableist-white-supremacist-capitalistic-patriarchal-society that has choked you so violently up until now.”

A lecturer at North Carolina State University will reportedly be docking students’ grades for using “sexist” language — such as the word “mankind.” “Thanks to evolution, generalized pronouns and other biased references are no longer acceptable in any class,” stated the syllabus for Nancy Bishop’s online Women and Poverty class, according to a screenshot of the document obtained by the College Fix.

Multiple professors at Washington State University have explicitly told students their grades will suffer if they use terms such as “illegal alien,” "male," and “female,” or if they fail to “defer” to non-white students. According to the syllabus for Selena Lester Breikss’ “Women & Popular Culture” class, students risk a failing grade if they use any common descriptors that Breikss considers “oppressive and hateful language.”
White students in Professor John Streamas’s “ Introduction to Multicultural Literature” class, are expected to “defer” to non-white students, among other community guidelines, if they want “to do well in this class.”... Streamas—who previously generated controversy by calling a student a “ white shitbag” and declared that WSU should stand for “White Supremacist University”—also demands that students “understand and consider the rage of people who are victims of systematic injustice.”

More than 450 graduate students at Columbia University have signed a letter boycotting the school’s mandatory sexual respect education program. As previously reported by Campus Reform, the Ivy League school in New York City unveiled a new sexual respect education program mandatory for all students. Next semester, Notre Dame will offer a class that aims to help students acknowledge and understand their so-called “white privilege” and – as a result of their “personal transformation” – find ways to “disrupt … oppression,” a description of the class states.
The sessions were part of a thorough thought-reform curriculum, designed by the school’s Office of Residence Life, to psychologically “treat” and correct the allegedly incorrect thoughts, attitudes, values, beliefs, and habits of the students.
Posters and door decorations provided the ResLife messages everywhere; one could not escape them. One administrator of the program, Sendy Guerrier, wrote that students “should be confronted with this information at every turn.”

Students at Appalachian State University in North Carolina are being admonished by a residential adviser who is urging them to “check” no fewer than seven types of privilege, Campus Reform reports. The dangerous privileges to be checked were all listed on a bulletin board in the campus’ East Hall, and included “white privilege,” “male privilege,” “Christian privilege,” “heterosexual privilege", ”able-bodied privilege,” “class privilege” and even “cisgender privilege” (a person is “cisgender” if their stated gender matches their physical sex).

Cuba’s communist-led intelligence services are aggressively recruiting leftist American academics and university professors as spies and influence agents, according to an internal FBI report published this week.
Cuban intelligence services “have perfected the work of placing agents, that includes aggressively targeting U.S. universities under the assumption that a percentage of students will eventually move on to positions within the U.S. government that can provide access to information of use to the [Cuban intelligence service],” the five-page unclassified FBI report says. It notes that the Cubans “devote a significant amount of resources to targeting and exploiting U.S. academia.”

Just in time for Holy Week are many reports about this controversial incident involving a local college professor at Florida Atlantic University in Davie, Florida making his students literally stomp on paper after they were instructed to write the name Jesus on it. However national media, while reporting on this incident, neglected to include the fact that the professor is also vice-chairman of the Palm Beach County Democratic Party.

UCLA has found a novel way to improve the politicization of its curriculum. UCLA Today, the faculty and staff newspaper, reports that the university’s Institute of the Environment and Sustainability and the Sustainability Committee have teamed up to help faculty members across the university figure out ways to slip sustainability messages into their classes, regardless of the actual subjects they are teaching. Participating faculty members get a two-hour workshop and a $1,200 grant to turn their courses into vehicles of sustaina-ganda. The newspaper account highlights political science professor Miriam Golden who is using the extra money to change reading lists, data sets, homework assignments. Professor Golden is ardently behind the cause. “I think climate change is the largest global challenge to ever face the human race, and we need to help students understand the social and political implications,” she says.

The many California professors behind a nearly 90-page report detailing a litany of examples of leftist political bias by University of California educators continue to call for reform – and continually get shut down by the system’s leaders, who refuse to admit there is a problem. The report, released in April and penned by the California Association of Scholars – which represents several hundred professors across the state – details how universities in general, and the University of California system’s 10 campuses in particular, are filled with radically politicized, socialist-leaning professors who teach students “what to think rather than how to think.”

A college professor has been placed on leave after she allegedly forced her class to sign a pledge to vote for President Obama in the upcoming elections. Early last week Professor Sharon Sweet at Brevard Community College (BCC) allegedly told students to sign a pledge that reads: “I pledge to vote for President Obama and Democrats up and down the ticket.” The pledge was printed off of GottaVote.org, a website funded by the Obama campaign... “Based on the allegations, Associate Professor Sweet has requested, and been granted, a leave of absence without pay effective immediately,” reads a statement put out by John Glisch, Associate Vice President for Communications at BCC... Sweet’s actions may have also violated Florida’s election laws.

As faculty members at Ohio State last week double-checked their syllabi, glanced at their rosters, and ran through the usual routines for the start of fall courses, some of them found a surprise in their e-mail in boxes. A senior English professor invited his colleagues to open their classrooms in the weeks ahead to organizers in the Obama campaign. They would first encourage students to register to vote and then, if the instructors were willing, encourage students to volunteer for the Obama campaign.
