A new municipal ID designed primarily for illegal immigrants will be accepted in Chicago as a valid form of identification to register to vote.
The CityKey will be a government-issued photo identification card available to all Chicago residents regardless of immigration status, criminal record, housing status, or gender identity, according to the city clerk’s website.

On Monday, the Californian State Senate passed legislation AB817 that would allow non-citizens to help voters when they cast their ballots. Assemblyman Rob Bonta, D-Alameda sponsored the bill, which would permit as many as five permanent residents who entered the U.S. legally to help voters at polling places.
On Thursday, Vice President Joe Biden said he believes all of the country's illegal immigrants are "already American citizens." "You know, eleven million people live in the shadows. I believe they're already American citizens."

Robert Menendez employed as an unpaid intern an illegal immigrant who was a registered sex offender, now under arrest by immigration authorities, the Associated Press reported Wednesday. The Denver City Council agreed Monday to change to local sentencing guidelines in order to shield legal immigrants convicted of domestic violence from deportation proceedings.
In a unanimous 12-0 vote, council members revised criminal penalties for several “low-level” crimes, reducing the maximum sentence to less than 365 days in jail. Under federal law, a criminal conviction that results in a sentence of a year or more is grounds for deporting any alien, including U.S. visa holders and legal permanent residents.
