Perhaps the reason progressives think women in America are so oppressed is that they are treated unfairly in liberal spaces.
Hollywood has a sexism problem, Democratic politicians (Bill Clinton, Anthony Weiner, the Kennedys, Bob Filner, etc.) really do seem to be of the "Mad Men" era where sexual harassment and womanizing wasn't just accepted but encouraged.

“Women have an instinctive desire to hide what has happened to us. It’s because we recognize that if anyone finds out something has happened to us, our own careers may be in danger.”

Cristy Zercher confided several years ago that Bill Clinton had groped her on his campaign jet, but she laughed off the alleged incident and even seemed "honored" by it, one of Zercher's friends said yesterday.
Carlene Charlemagne, who worked with Zercher at a New Jersey management firm, said Zercher openly discussed the incident three or four years ago and indicated it "wasn't a big deal."
"She said, 'He's a party animal. He groped me and grabbed my boobs,' " Charlemagne said. "She was just laughing about it. She said, 'Can you believe our President would do something like that?'"
