Former Amalgamated Transit Union local 689 president Mike Golash, now an “Occupy” movement organizer, was caught on tape Sunday revealing his political goals: overthrowing capitalism in the United States and instituting a communist government. “Progressive labor is a revolutionary communist organization,” Golash said during an Occupy DC “People’s Assembly” on August 19. “Its objective,” he added, “is to make revolution in the United States, overthrow the capitalist system and build communism.”

China’s Communist Party has reiterated its official verdicts on the Cultural Revolution and the Tiananmen Square crackdown of 1989. That is according to a new historical resolution adopted by its top leadership last week, only the third such resolution in the party’s 100-year history.
The resolution, according to the full text released by state news agency Xinhua on Tuesday, states that the party never swerved from its rejection of the Cultural Revolution, which plunged China into a decade of chaos and violence from 1966... the new resolution, which describes the Cultural Revolution as “a catastrophe” and “10 years of turmoil”, and holds Mao responsible for it.
There were mistakes before the Cultural Revolution as well, including the “Great Leap Forward”, “the people’s commune movement” and the excessive scope of the anti-rightist struggles, the document says.

Some 10 million children, from just past the nursing stage to the age of 16, became collateral victims of Stalin’s regime of deliberate terror. When not claimed by relatives, these children entered the horrendous world of state orphanages for warehousing and reeducation. Until Stalin’s death in 1953 they were saddled with the stigma of descent from “enemies of the people.”
We first learned about their fate in Semyon S. Vilensky’s blood-curdling documentary compilation Deti GULAGA, 1918-1956 (2002) and its English-language equivalent, Children of the Gulag, published (together with Cathy A. Frierson) by Yale University Press in its Annals of Communism series.

MIT Press is out with a new book that teaches children the tenets of Karl Marx with fairy tales. Communism for Kids, written by a German author who specializes in political theory and "queer politics," was released last month. The thesis of the children's book is that communism is "not that hard," but has not been implemented in the right way.
"Once upon a time, people yearned to be free of the misery of capitalism. How could their dreams come true?" a plot synopsis for the book reads. "This little book proposes a different kind of communism, one that is true to its ideals and free from authoritarianism."
The book is full of cartoon drawings of "lovable little revolutionaries" that help navigate kids through the "evils" of capitalism.
As Paul Johnson notes in Intellectuals, Marx “has himself, in the person of God, say: ‘I shall howl gigantic curses at mankind’,” in one of his savage early poems.
The man was touched, not by the magic fire that has inspired so many great artists but by a diabolical rage against truth, order, light, and beauty that characterizes Satan in Milton’s Paradise Lost, and has the same object of hostility: humanity.
