Enough! Enough! For months, the so-called liberal elite has been writing articles, having radio and TV discussions, giving sermons (literally) and making speeches in which it has struggled to understand those strange creatures: ordinary people.
The elite is bemused by what drives these people to make perverse decisions about Brexit and Trump. Are they racist, narrow-minded or just stupid? Whatever the reason, ordinary people have frankly been a disappointment. -James Bartholomew
I have spent my life as a Democrat which probably isn’t that surprising considering that I am African-American. One of the things that always attracted me to the party were the ideals of equality, fighting for the little guy and our openness to differing opinions, but lately I have seen my party take a turn that makes me uncomfortable.
Somewhere along the way we stopped fighting for the little guy and became the party of the smug, educated elites who look down on those with less education and deem them unable or unworthy of being able to make personal decisions for their own lives. -Nikki Johnson-Huston
There is a smug style in American liberalism. It has been growing these past decades. It is a way of conducting politics, predicated on the belief that American life is not divided by moral difference or policy divergence — not really —but by the failure of half the country to know what's good for them. -Emmett Rensin
There’s “a bit of elitism that’s crept in” to party thinking.

Metallica frontman James Hetfield said last week that he moved from his long-time home in San Francisco, California because he could not handle the city’s “elitist attitude” anymore... Hetfield has lived in northern California for several decades but says he decided to leave because he is looked down upon by San Francisco residents, who are known for making up one of the most liberal communities in the country. Hetfield said he was viewed negatively for his lifestyle and political views, claiming the San Francisco Bay Area only accepts diversity if “you’re diverse like them.”

Iowa Democrat Bruce Braley, who is running to replace Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), apologized on Tuesday for attempting to insult Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) by pointing out that he is just a “farmer from Iowa who never went to law school.”

"One of the things the decider-in-chief has to do is decide whether he’s going to bring this country together across all its diversity or let it drift apart. Look at how much stronger the American military is because it is less racist, less sexist and less homophobic and we’re just looking for people who can do the job," said Clinton.

Schiller goes on to describe liberals as more intelligent and informed than conservatives. “In my personal opinion, liberals today might be more educated, fair and balanced than conservatives,” he said.
Memo from The New York Times to the Denizens of Flyover Country...
The unlicensed pipe fitter known as Joe the Plumber is out with a book this month, just as the last seconds on his 15 minutes are slipping away.
I have a question for Joe: Do you want me to fix your leaky toilet?
I didn't think so. And I don't want you writing books.
"I was taken aback by the demeaning remarks Senator Obama made about people in small-town America," she said on Saturday. "His remarks are elitist and out of touch."
Clinton campaigners in North Carolina handed out stickers saying: "I'm not bitter."

The president of Estonia chewed out Paul Krugman on Wednesday, using Twitter to call the Nobel Prize-winning economist "smug, overbearing & patronizing," in response to a short post on Estonia's economic recovery...
President Toomas Hendrik Ilves responded to Krugman in a series of outraged tweets, taking offense to Krugman's tone and writing that Krugman didn't know what he was talking about. "We're just dumb & silly East Europeans. Unenlightened. Someday we too will understand," he tweeted. "Guess a Nobel in trade means you can pontificate on fiscal matters & declare my country a "wasteland". Must be a Princeton vs Columbia thing."
Rolling his eyes, Prof. X went on to say that he was wary of accepting a position on this lowly commuter campus, with its working-class student body.
The disconnect between leftists' announced value of championing the poor and the leftist practice of expressing snobbery for them stung me.
Already vulnerable students would be taught by a professor who regarded association with them as a burden, a failure, and a stigma.

New York Times columnist David Carr responds to Bill Maher implying Alabama and Kansas are not the "smart states." David Carr: "If it's Kansas, Missouri, no big deal. You know, that's the dance of the low-sloping foreheads. The middle places, right? [pause] Did I just say that aloud?"
Elitist stereotyping from The Hill...
A flyover state is the huge region between the coasts. As opposed to the eastern seaboard, northern post-industrial states and Pacific Ocean states.
They're overwhelmingly Republican, stanchly conservative, regressive right wing, evangelical Christian and working class, well, the loudest, most ill-informed of them are.

"They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."
The most prejudiced people also tend to be the most provincial; they've never actually met any of the people they think they hate.
“One thing middle america could do is to realize that no educated person wants to live in a shithole with stupid people. Especially violent, racist, and/or misogynistic ones.”

Times are tough for everyone. Including gazillionaire John Kerry. The Massachusetts senator is under fire for docking his brand new $7-million yacht in Rhode Island. It's not illegal to moor your boat there or anything. It's just that Rhode Island doesn’t have a boat sales and use tax anymore.
"Some of the biggest cases of mistaken identity are among intellectuals who have trouble remembering that they are not God."
The increasingly sneering attitude of coastal elites toward the more conservative interior, particularly for the poor communities there, is as undeniable as it is distasteful.

"I'm sure the governor of a small, rural, landlocked state full of white people will totally know a whole lot about China, and stuff."

Pssst... Ian - Bill Clinton was also the governor of a small, rural, landlocked state full of white people.
Think before you speak, liberal.
“So if you want jobs, clean up your act and make your town a place that people like us want to live in. Add fiber internet. Make it a point to elect a progressive city council and commit to not being bigots.”
