Occupy Oakland successfully disrupted a meeting where city officials were considering an ordinance that would have banned demonstrators from using weapons such as clubs, hammers and shields. During the meeting, demonstrators cursed, yelled and made statements that could easily be perceived as threats against city leaders. Occupy protesters were reportedly concerned that a weapons ban would leave them defenseless against police violence.
The unwillingness of authorities to put a stop to their organized disruptions of other people's lives, their trespassing, vandalism and violence is a de facto suspension, if not repeal, of the 14th Amendment's requirement that the government provide "equal protection of the laws" to all its citizens. How did the "Occupy" movement acquire such immunity from the laws that the rest of us are expected to obey? Simply by shouting politically correct slogans and calling themselves representatives of the 99% against the 1%. But just when did the 99% elect them as their representatives?... -Thomas Sowell

A post on the church’s website says the “decision was made out of an abundance of caution as we continue to face safety issues arising from the sidewalk camp in front of Trinity Church.” A group called “Occupy Trinity Wall Street Church” – which labels itself as “An action of Occupy Wall Street” – set up a makeshift camp on the sidewalk in front of the church... The church said some 1,200 people attended last year’s Halloween celebration and that it’s been held for the last eight years.

(CBS/AP) NEW YORK - Without running water or working toilets, the crowded anti-Wall Street encampments across the country are not the most pleasant-smelling places to live. Nor are they quiet, with drumming and chanting echoing through the air at all hours of the night. That's why police and neighbors in some cities are starting to lose patience with the protesters, who are preparing to settle in for the winter months.

It seemed a gesture of Christian tolerance when a clergyman at St Paul’s Cathedral told police to allow anti-capitalist protesters camped outside to continue their demonstration.... But the alliance appeared to be faltering yesterday as St Paul’s closed for the first time since the Blitz, claiming it had no choice because of the dangers posed by the growing numbers on its doorstep... Protesters described the decision as a “shame” and voted to ignore the plea.

Attempting to emulate the Occupy Wall Street protests, Washington activists and some out-of-town guests set themselves the lofty goal of occupying the Hart Senate Office Building. “We are there to shut the place down!” organizer David Swanson told his small band of followers. But how to do this with only a few dozen demonstrators? Well, Swanson said, they could push all the buttons on the elevators — the way naughty children sometimes do in apartment buildings. “There are people who are wanting to go into the elevators and fill them and not get out and push all the buttons,” he said. “If you like that, do it.”

A group of activists says it has taken over a tract of University of California at Berkeley-owned land on the Berkeley-Albany border and plans to plant seedlings and convert the land to agricultural use. The group Occupy the Farm took over the property known as the Gill Tract, at San Pablo Avenue and Marin Avenue, this afternoon, and plans to stay overnight, group members said. Activists described the property as "the last remaining 10 acres of Class I agricultural soil in the urbanized East Bay," and noted that the university plans to sell the property for a retail development.

We will transform this vacant building into a productive and vibrant space, just as we did in the plaza occupation, and we wish others to take similar actions and more."

Protesters first marched through the Los Angeles financial district, chanting "Occupy the Freeways, Occupy the U.S.A.", and then a small group stood in a circle and held hands on a major downtown street, blocking it, before police advanced.

Traffic in Westwood was badly snarled Wednesday afternoon because of a student protest and street sit-in against the cost of higher education and the banking industry's purported role in it.
After a march by about 200 protesters from the UCLA campus, several of them sat down in the busy intersection of Westwood and Wilshire boulevards and refused to move for about an hour. The result was traffic chaos in Westwood, which otherwise is clogged because of construction on the 405 Freeway that runs along its western border.
