While the Occupy movement's proletariat were sleeping under canvas, many of its leaders were staying in five-star hotels. Six-figure sums of money were collected, but their disbursement was cloudy. Does every movement, however egalitarian in doctrine, inevitably produce its own overclass? Are "egalitarian" movements more prone to such outcomes? -Glenn Reynolds
Occupy Chicago gearing up what they call their “Chicago Spring”. One of the protesters interviewed told ABC this:
“I want Medicare, Social Security. I want housing to be taken care of. I want the upper 1 percent to pay fair taxes,” said protestor Barb Hogman.
They selfishly feast on spaghetti bolognese and sheep's milk, but when the truly needy show up, the cupboard is bare. "No soup for you! You're on your own, freeloader." Apparently it's the bottom 1% against whom they're waging class war.

The mother-of-four who made headlines last year leaving her children to go join Occupy Wall Street is divorcing her husband and cashing in on his banking-earned riches in the process. Stacey Hessler cites protesting as her profession and famously devoted herself to the Occupy movement, demonstrating against the very banks behind her recently increased cash-flow. She walks away from former banker Curtiss Hessler with a total of $85,385 from his stock-filled retirement fund and bank account.

This suspicion of mainstream ideas or groups also extends to white protesters. On Oct. 9, organizer and New York activist Rob Hollander complained on Occupy Wall Street’s restricted email list that New York protesters were “at least 80 % white.” That high percentage, he said, “reflects its source base: the [General Assemblies] I attended in August were closer to 90% white and 0% black.”

Nieves volunteers on Occupy Wall Street's security team, but says many new arrivals do not pull their weight. "We have compassion toward everyone. However, we have certain rules and guidelines," said Lauren Digioia, 26, a member of the sanitation committee. "If you're going to come here and get our food, bedding and clothing, have books and medical supplies for no charge, they need to give back," Digioia said. "There's a lot of takers here and they feel entitled."

Occupy Wall Street protesters have begun to squabble over money with some demanding a reported $500,000 the movement has in its bank be shared more equally.

A white suburban participant who lists her occupation as a grocery deli clerk posted a comment expressing frustration at what she said was reverse racism. The resulting outcry from other activists included more than 600 Facebook comments, including claims that white people, by virtue of their birth, are guilty of historic race crimes. White Progressives are recoiling in horror. Committee meetings on racial sensitivity and concerns about “white privilege” were also on the movement’s docket this week.

Occupy Wall Street’s Finance Committee has nearly $500,000 in the bank, and donations continue to pour in -- but its reluctance to share the wealth with other protesters is fraying tempers. Some drummers -- incensed they got no money to replace or safeguard their drums after a midnight vandal destroyed their instruments Wednesday -- are threatening to splinter off. “F--k Finance. I hope Mayor Bloomberg gets an injunction and demands to see the movement’s books. We need to know how much money we really have and where it’s going,” said a frustrated Bryan Smith, 45, who joined OWS in Lower Manhattan nearly three weeks ago from Los Angeles, where he works in TV production.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Puerto Rico officials threatened the island's Occupy Movement with legal action Thursday if its supporters do not clean up a public park they occupied for five months and abandoned suddenly this week... "The amount of garbage, waste and rubble left behind is impressive," she said. "They were supposedly defending the environment, fighting for a better Puerto Rico ... what they left behind is everything to the contrary."
"We need to limit the amount of food we’re putting out." In an "exclusive" report, the Post says for the next three days the cooks will serve only brown rice "and other spartan grub instead of the usual menu of organic chicken and vegetables, spaghetti bolognese, and roasted beet and sheep’s-milk-cheese salad." Kitchen workers will also be handing out directions to soup kitchens to anyone suspected of being a mere vagrant, and not an activist.

It's no secret that Occupy DC protesters aren't exactly fans of Fox News. So when the protesters noticed a Fox van illegally parked on K Street Monday, they took advantage of the situation. Several dozen protesters surrounded the empty van, which had already received a parking ticket from the city, and placed a handwritten "Citizen's Arrest" ticket on the windshield.

OAKLAND (CBS/AP) — A group of Oakland anti-Wall Street protesters who blame large banks for the economic downturn have decided that one of those institutions is the best place to stash their money for now. Protesters at an Occupy Oakland meeting Monday voted to deposit a $20,000 donation into a Wells Fargo account. The move comes just days after one of Wells Fargo’s branches was vandalized during a massive downtown demonstration.

The Occupy Wall Street volunteer kitchen staff launched a “counter” revolution yesterday -- because they’re angry about working 18-hour days to provide food for “professional homeless” people and ex-cons masquerading as protesters. For three days beginning tomorrow, the cooks will serve only brown rice and other spartan grub instead of the usual menu of organic chicken and vegetables, spaghetti bolognese, and roasted beet and sheep’s-milk-cheese salad.

As the Occupy Wall Street movement expands, protest organizers -- many of whom support wealth redistribution -- are struggling with distributing the $500,000 in donations they have received. As the saying goes, money changes everything, and apparently it's causing infighting in the group.
