“One million people” have fled the city and tri-state area “in the last nine years” alone, Jack Kelly observes at Forbes. “Almost 300 people are moving out” each day. Why the mass exodus?
The “schools, bridges, tunnels, trains, airports and hospitals are falling apart.” Residents face “exorbitant taxes.” City streets are “crowded and dirty.”

Well, a new Empire Center for Public Policy report notes that taxpayers have been fleeing some states for others. And New York is seeing more taxpayers move away than any other state. The state’s had Democratic governors since 2007 — and has out-of-control government spending, high tax burdens, over-regulation, uneven job growth and fleeing residents.
Indeed, the five states with the highest out-migration have Democratic governors, while the five states attracting the most new taxpayers are run by GOP governors.

New York State accounted for the biggest migration exodus of any state in the nation between 2000 and 2010, with 3.4 million residents leaving over that period, according to the Tax Foundation. Over that decade the state gained 2.1 million, so net migration amounted to 1.3 million, representing a loss of $45.6 billion in income.

The city’s hedge-fund executives are flying south — and it’s not for vacation. An increasing number of financial firms, especially private equity and hedge funds, are fed up with New York’s sky-high city and state tax rates and are relocating to the business-friendly climate in Florida’s Palm Beach County. And they’re being welcomed with open arms — officials in Palm Beach recently opened an entire office dedicated to luring finance hot shots down south.
Time to move out of NYC...
I've been living in New York City for about 10 years. It has definitely gotten worse and there's no end in sight.

I don't think I have an answer but I do think it's clear: it's time to move out of NYC.

Leaving New York...
In the summer of 2012, I moved to New York City, law degree in hand but with no intent to practice law. I’d traded a cushy associateship at a large law firm for a chance to work on the Wall Street Journal opinion pages as a “fellow” (read: glorified intern). I thought I’d stay in the city for a long time, and almost did.
But this week, I resolved that I’ve had enough—that my family deserves better than what this city’s atrocious, deep-blue leadership has to offer.
President Obama’s infatuation with the effort to create another government-subsidized rail entitlement means the rest of the country is on the hook for at least half of this still considerable sum. A recent survey by Travel + Leisure magazine ranked New York the dirtiest American city. The online poll of 50,000 people found that rats, funky odors and trash heaps were the main factors for the dubious distinction. If there isn't enough dirt for you, it also "won" the survey for being the loudest and rudest city in the country. It also ranked worst for affordability.

One woman said rats have infested her building on 154th Street, where one rodent bit a neighbor’s daughter. “They’re taking over, it’s madness,” she said. A sanitation worker said he has to shake and kick bags of garbage to scatter the rats for fear they’ll jump up and bite him.

It was seven minutes in hell! A nasty rat was an unwelcome commuter on a rush-hour A train yesterday morning — terrorizing straphangers during the agonizingly long nonstop ride from Harlem to Midtown. What started as a typical sleepy end-of-the-week ride between 125th Street and Columbus Circle morphed into an urban nightmare when a woman listening to an iPod felt a scratching on her leg at about 8 a.m. “I started feeling down my leg and I knew there was something furry and large crawling on my leg,” said Ana Vargas, 40, a Times Square hotel worker from Yonkers.

The block bordered by 35th and 36th streets, and Seventh and Eighth Avenues, is “littered with used needles, broken glass crack pipes, trash, urine, and feces” as junkies shoot up and dealers brazenly sell drugs, lamented one neighbor on social media. “I’ve personally seen dozens of deals go down. I’ve seen a person OD and nearly die.”...
The NYPD appears to have only a token presence. Two cops stood on Eighth Avenue between 35th and 36th, leaning up against a police van while staring into their phones, as illicit activities swirled around them.
But cops have been “effectively ordered” by city and state leaders to let junkies roam free, said Manny Gomez, a former NYPD sergeant and FBI special agent who now heads MG Security Services.

Disturbing video released by the New York Police Department Monday shows a woman getting up from a bench and shoving another woman into a moving subway train entering a Times Square station during the early morning rush hour commute in what’s believed to be an unprovoked attack.
The female suspect, whom police describe as a woman in her 30s wearing a multicolored scarf, black shirt and beige pants, is seen getting up from a bench inside the 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue station and suddenly shoving a 42-year-old woman, who is off camera...
The assailant then appears to calmly walk away, as several other bystanders on the platform appear relatively unaffected. Police say the 42-year-old woman did not fall onto the tracks, but rather the force of the push knocked her into the moving train before she ricocheted backward onto the platform.

Thanks to a citywide shoplifting tsunami, bare necessities are now rare luxuries on drug-store shelves across New York City.
“It looks like the Third World,” bemoaned one Manhattan resident, after eyeing the aisles of a CVS on Sixth Avenue in Soho desperately low of toothpaste, face wash and hand sanitizer, among a long list of other items.
“They’ve all been stolen,” a CVS employee told The Post.
State bail reform laws make shoplifting a promising career option for some New York City crooks. One man, Isaac Rodriguez, 22, of Queens, was arrested for shoplifting 46 times this year alone, The Post exclusively reported last week...
“Insanity,” the police commissioner tweeted last week in response to The Post report. “No other way to describe the resulting crime that has flowed from disastrous bail reform law.”
President Obama’s infatuation with the effort to create another government-subsidized rail entitlement means the rest of the country is on the hook for at least half of this still considerable sum. Retirees in Florida and schoolteachers in Mississippi, who will never ride California’s train, will be forced to pay for it anyway.

Amid a surge in some New York City violent crime, Wall Street bigwigs continue to encourage younger staffers to come into the office — but to do so with caution.
At Bank of America, senior executives have quietly encouraged younger employees to “dress down” to attract less attention as they make their way to B of A’s tower at 1 Bryant Park. These execs have told their staffers that dressing up, or wearing anything with a Bank of America logo, could make them a target...

New York City police are searching for a group of suspects accused in a violent assault and robbery Thursday afternoon of a 15-year-old girl in Brooklyn, WCBS-TV reported. The 4 p.m. incident was caught on surveillance video on Utica Avenue near Sterling Place in Crown Heights, the station said. The girl apparently was knocked to the sidewalk by one male before others joined the attack and began stomping her...
Carlita Gorden works at a nearby salon and came to the scene when she heard screaming, the station said... "She was bleeding like crazy," she said. "We just tried to keep her calm and sitting there until the ambulance come."
