Charlottesville Police Department officials have told the University of Virginia that there was no substantive basis for the gang-rape allegations lodged against a fraternity in a November Rolling Stone article... In a press release announcing the reinstatement of Phi Kappa Psi, the fraternity accused of committing the gang rape as part of an initiation, U.Va. officials said they were told by police that the incident couldn’t have occurred at that particular university.

UC Santa Barbara Morgan Triplett, 20, claimed she was violently raped at UC Santa Cruz while visiting the campus for a Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender academic conference. News of the rape provoked fear across the campus. But police now say they believe Triplett staged the rape by hiring a man on Craigslist to beat her. She paid him with sex: Triplett took out two ads on Craigslist, one asking for someone to shoot her in the shoulder and the other asking to be beaten in return for sex. “No charges would be filed,” the ads said, according to Schonfield. UCSC police found the ads during an intensive investigation that started President’s Day weekend, when the rape report terrified the campus.

A University of Arkansas student who claimed she was sexually assaulted will face felony charges for her false report, according to the Arkansas Traveler. Police are charging junior Lindsey Sweetin with filing a false police report. Sweetin claimed she was groped by a stranger in a parking garage on Feb. 26. But witness testimony and video surveillance cast doubt on Sweetin's claim and she eventually admitted to lying...
This was the second false report of sexual assault at the university in the past year. Previously, Julia Garcia, another student, had claimed she was raped in a different UA parking garage. Again, video surveillance proved she was lying.
Rolling Stone has settled a lawsuit with the University of Virginia fraternity whose members were falsely accused of raping a female student in a Nov. 2014 article, The Daily Caller has learned.
