Campaigning in Ohio for President Barack Obama, Clinton says the GOP was "crushed" when the jobless rate fell to 7.8 percent last month. He says Republicans nearly managed to keep it above 8 percent "all the way to the election. But they failed." Clinton didn’t say specifically what he thought Republicans had done to try to keep unemployment above 8 percent.
Losing campaigns have a certain feel to them: They go negative hard, try out new messaging very late in the game, hype issues that only their core supporters are focused on, and try to turn non-gaffes and minor slip-ups by their opponents into massive, election-turning scandals. -Ross Douthat
Kids say the darndest things. But sometimes they say shocking things. On Thursday, 9-year-old Brandon did the latter when he was asked why he wanted President Barack Obama to win a second term outside a campaign rally featuring First Lady Michelle Obama in Daytona, Fla. “Because if Mitt Romney win, we’ll be going back to the crop fields,” Brandon said, referring to the days of slavery. “We’ll be picking crops.”

President Obama's newest campaign ad shows challenger Mitt Romney saying he'd "be delighted" to sign a bill banning abortion. But the 30-second spot takes Romney out of context. Romney did say during a debate in 2007 that he'd sign such a bill. But what he said afterward -- that a federal abortion ban is "not where America is today" -- was left out of the ad. The ad will air in the battleground state of Virginia.

On Monday, a "team member" named Laurence De Palma, who lists his location as East Nashville, presented volunteers with some talking points to convince Southern Christian voters they shouldn't vote for a Mormon. The message was available under "Resources" and tagged "persuasion." "I'm thinking that even though we don't LIKE campaigns to get nasty, we in the south (TN) come to EXPECT it," De Palma began. "What we also know is that we have a very 'rigid' view of Christianity, and apparently, Mormonism isn't anywhere in our views. This could easily win TN/SC/AL/GA, etc."

Left-wing Slate blogger Matthew Yglesias, who was a part of the left-wing cabal known as "Journolist," and who is frequently a source of stories circulated by the Obama campaign, sent out a tweet on Sunday in which he implied that Republican challenger Mitt Romney was analogous to Adolf Hitler. As Democrats focus on Romney's Swiss bank accounts to try to distract and steer the conversation away from President Barack Obama's horrendous record on the environment, Yglesias tweeted, "You know who else had a Swiss bank account?" Yglesias then linked to an article titled, "Discovered: Hitler's secret Swiss bank account."

"We now have a Republican nominee who said that the Arizona laws are a model for the country, that -- and these are laws that potentially would allow someone to be stopped and picked up and asked where their citizenship papers are based on an assumption," President Obama said in an interview with Univision that aired over the weekend. "Racial profiling?" Univision reporter Enrique Acevedo asked. "Very troublesome. And this is something that the Republican nominee has said should be a model for the country," Obama said.
